With spring just around the corner, it’s time to prepare for your plumbing spring clean. Here are a few pointers to get you moving in the right direction.
Pour a gallon of water into infrequently used drains. This ensures that traps are filled, and unpleasant odours are kept at bay.
Clean out any drains in your garden to remove any winter debris.
Check the temperature setting on the boiler. Ideally, it should not be higher than 120oF to prevent scalding and help reduce your energy bill.
If your boiler is more than 15 years old, consider replacing it. If you don’t know when it was installed, the first four digits of the serial number are the month and the year it was made.
Cleaning out your washing machine lint filter.
Clean any mineral deposits from your shower head. Unscrew it and soak it in vinegar overnight to remove any residues.
